The Building Engineering Services Association (BESA) is the UK trade body for the building-engineering sector: heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration and plumbing. BESA publishes the technical standards the industry actually works to, including TR/19 (ventilation hygiene), the standard ventilation systems are surveyed and cleaned against. Our ventilation hygiene work is carried out in line with BESA TR19 and evidenced for the Vent Hygiene Register (VHR), the scheme administered by BESCA.

What it covers
  • Recognition as a competent member firm of the trade body
  • Subscription to BESA's published technical standards (TR/19, TR/20, SFG20 schedules)
  • Access to the BESA Charter for service quality and consumer protection
  • Membership in industry forums on ventilation hygiene, fire-damper testing, and the Building Safety Act's ventilation duties
What it means for clients

Why this matters
on a real job.

BESA membership signals that the M&E and ventilation work is delivered to the published industry standards, relevant for clients specifying TR/19-compliant ventilation hygiene programmes, fire-damper testing under BS 9999 or HVAC commissioning to CIBSE guidance.
