A school kept safe
around the school day.
A secondary school is the definition of a building that cannot stop. As principal contractor for Haringey Council, Gemini AMPM sealed twenty one fire stopping locations through Highgate Wood School and restored its fire door protection, landing the heaviest phase in the summer holidays and closing out the scope with a FIRAS Certificate of Conformity.

The main scope was penetration sealing: nineteen documented locations from the ground floor stair corridor up through the first, second and third floor ceilings, where services had been cut through fire lines and never properly reinstated. The systems were Nullifire throughout: ablative coated batt and solution, graphite high pressure mastic, intumescent mastic and pipe wraps to sixty minute ratings, with fire rated boarding where openings needed rebuilding. Fire door protection was restored alongside: FD30 components, intumescent strips and rated hardware to tested details.
The programme was built around the pupils. The main phase mobilised in the last week of August, up to eight operatives working through the summer holidays behind barriers and signage, battery tools to keep corridors free of trailing leads, and a full protocol on standby in case works uncovered anything unexpected in a 1950s building fabric.

Penetration sealing

Fire door works
FD30 door components restored to tested details: Pyroflex intumescent strips, rated hinges and glazed doorset components.

Every location carries a photographic record from first exposure to finished seal: two report volumes covering the nineteen main locations and a follow up visit in February 2024 that closed out two further locations found in service areas. That final visit completed the certificated scope.
The FIRAS Certificate of Conformity was issued within the week, covering both penetration sealing and timber fire doors under a FIRAS registered supervisor. For a council estate team, that certificate plus the photo record is the file that answers the auditor’s question before it is asked: not that work was done, but that the right systems went into the right holes and can be proven.
